Van Support

100% Van Support on all our Alpine Trips

Applies to: Ventoux, Gorges, French Alps, Epic Alps, Cottian Alps, Riding Giants, Apeninnes and the Dolomites.

Team Support: On our Alpine trips the support van (Erika) is always present and you will have access to your small Day Bag (not your steamer trunk) for a change of clothes. The van also has a complete tool kit with spare tires and tubes for those that are unlucky with punctures.

Food, snacks and water*, supplied by Two Tyred Tours are available all day long. Your group decides how, when and the frequency of your feeds. From experience our riders need to eat something every ±30 kms with a bigger feed at ride-mid-point, usually at the top of a Col (weather permitting) or maybe halfway down. Never before a climb. But, the more spread out the group is the more difficult it is for the van to be in three places at the same time. However, we are getting pretty good at doing this.

What is a Day Bag? It is a small bag that you pack with extra clothing and any other things that you might want or need during your ride. It stays within easy reach in the van, as all the other suitcases and steamer trunks are usually stacked in the rear of the van and somewhat inaccessible. It’s actually a good idea for riders on all trips to have a Day Bag when the van is present.

* Food, snacks and water provided by TTT: We typically have a selection of cold meats, cheeses, bread, yogurts, fruit, nuts, chocolate, cereal bars, juices, bottled water. Riders supply their own Gels and Powders.

Van Support on Rolling and Hilly Trips

Applies to Provence, Burgundy, Tuscany, Ardeche, Piedmonte

We have 3 different scenarios for these trips:

  1. Half Support. (most popular) The van is there for support only on hotel transfer days. Meaning you have one guide and he/she rides with you on loop days only, but drives the van with baggage to the next hotel on the transfer days. This means for example 4 van supported days out of 7 in Chianti.

  2. Full Support. The van is present every ride and all day long offering van support as well as your Day Bag. Only water is available in the van. This usually means one guide cycling and a second guide drives the van. The additional cost is passed on to the group. Some groups opt to not have a cycling guide as the van drives the cycling route in any case.

  3. Team Support. As in Full Support above but with Food, snacks and water*. The van is nearby all day, offering rider-support as well as access to your Day Bag. This service is included on all Alpine trips.

Food, snacks and water*, supplied by Two Tyred Tours are available all day for Team Support only. Your group decides how, when and the frequency of your feeds. Experience tells us that riders need to eat something every ±30 kms with a bigger feed at ride-mid-point. But, bear in mind how spread out the group can get. E-bikes tend to be a great leveller. Riders supply their own Gels and Powders as that is a personal choice as to what each rider wants.

This usually means a second guide for your trip and the additional cost is passed on to the group. Most groups however, opt to not have a second cycling guide with Team Support, as the van is always on or near the route and riders.

Picnics

We do not regularly make what some companies call “deluxe picnics.” However if this is what you wish, on one day during your bike trip, we can provide that service at an additional cost.

If you are cycling in Provence, Burgundy or Tuscany how can we possibly make a better lunch than one served at a local restaurant? Not to mention that chances are that you have to stand and eat, or maybe sit on a rock. And then there is the issue of hygiene. You are here to sample the great food as well as ride your bike. Sure, we can make a mean ham sandwich on gluten free bread, but is that really why you are riding in Europe?
