Burgundy Cycling

200 - 450kms ❖ 2000m - 5000m ❖ 6 nights - 6 days riding ❖ from 2300€ pp.

Burgundy is another beautiful area in France and a leisure cyclist’s dream, not to mention the food and the wine is a dream for anyone! TTT’s Burgundy is divided into two regions; Côtes de Nuits and the Côtes de Beaune, and you explore both; by bike, food and via the sampling of the famous Burgundian grape juice.

Our Burgundy cycle route takes us on many vineyard roads, from Nuits St. George to and through the wine villages of Beaune and Meursault, then back to Dijon via the Canal de Bourgogne. We have some extraordinary rides planned for you. The names of the villages that you ride through sounds like a Carte des Vins from a Michelin starred restaurant; Aloxe Corton, Pommard, Santenay, Pernand-Vergelesses, and many more.

We have at least one wine and one cheese tasting booked for you during the week. But the Burgundian cycling is so good, you will find that there are just not enough hours in the day to do more tastings and ride your bike. If you wish to have more wine tastings reserved for you, just let us know and we will take care of all the details. Otherwise, there is plenty of time in the evenings for your grape juice sampling.

Burgundy Cycling - Ride Difficulty 4-5/10

The riding is easy to moderate. Moderate because there are hills, and we do head up into these little hills to have some fun. There is of course the option to stay down low and keep the climbing to a minimum, however this will limit your riding - aahh, those tastings come to mind.

The rolling, signed vineyard routes in the valley floor are nice, but not very long, and they can be busy with other cyclists and vineyard vehicles. Which is why we suggest the neighbouring hills. We have some beautiful E-Bikes available if you wish to work a little less on the slopes of the Cote d’Or . What is important is that you ride a bike in Burgundy at least once in your life.

This is also one of our trips where you can change bikes mid-week. If you find that you would like to switch to an E-Bike, we can do that! Of course extra charges apply and the bike switch is based on availability.

There is a major “Bike Route” project due for completion in ‘22 or ‘23 which will extend the vineyard routes to the south of Beaune so stay tuned.

Burgundy Cycling Itinerary

Day 1. Nuits st. George Loop 1

Arrive in Dijon Gare in the morning. TTT will meet you there (or at your Dijon hotel) and drive you to Nuits Saint George, your home for two nights. We have a nice route prepared for you to get warmed up for the rest of your week.

30 - 70kms

Chateau de Rochepot

Day 2. Nuits st. George Loop 2

Today’s ride is a beautiful pedal through the vineyards from Nuits St. George up into the hills, aka. the Haute Côtes de Nuits. Many route options today to keep you busy, and we also have a little Gorge for you to ride - if you have the legs as after the Gorge it is up and plenty.

55 - 85kms

Day 3. Nuits - Puligny Montrachet

We depart Nuits and ride to the exceptional village of Puligny Montrachet via Savigny-les-Beaune and Beaune itself. Today, the riding is kept short so you can get a good sample of Beaune. A visit to the Hospices de Beaune is a must. Some of Burgundy’s best restaurants can be found here as well and we have a beauty for lunch. Your hotel is only 14k from Beaune so you have plenty of time to explore the city. In any case we come back here for one night at the the trip end.

40 - 75kms

Day 4. Puligny M. Loop 1

Today is possibly the ride of the week. You are now in the Côtes de Beaune, which has a completely different feel from where you rode yesterday; the Côtes du Nuits. We backtrack towards Beaune but head up into those golden hills for some stunning riding. Many route options as usual with TTT, but we do have our favourite loops, and this long loop is in the top 10. Today we also visit the world famous Chateau de Rochepot for a snack, a glass and a romp around the chateau. However.***

Storming the Chateau’s Gate

*** Actually we would love to visit the Chateau again. It has been closed to the public since 2018. Long story … but, the Ukrainian owner (yes, Ukrainian) was arrested for money laundering and faking his own death, so the French government seized the Chateau. But at least you get to see the outside! More info here.

55 - 100kms

Canal-side riding in Burgundy.

Day 5. Puligny M. Loop 2

Your second day in the Côte de Beaune sends you higher again, this time up to Nolay, in the Haute Côtes de Beaune, then back down to Chagny for some flat (finally?) canal-side riding. You will pass twice through the fabulous wine villages of Santenay, Chassagne-Montrachet and finally home to Puligny-Montrachet in case you are in dire need of some highly sought after Pinot Noir.

59 - 100+kms

Day 6. Puligny Montrachet to Beaune. Trip end.

Burgundy Routes

Your final riding day in this fantastic cycling region. No less than 5 route choices for today. See our map explanation here (on our GPS page) to get an idea of what routes are possible. Plenty of choice and some superb traffic free riding for your last day on your bike with TTT.

You rode through Beaune a couple of days ago and probably visited the Hospices, today we have a cheese and wine tasting lined up for you late afternoon. Yes, you get to immerse yourself in the famous Epoisses fromage again.

If you are here on a Friday night, tomorrow morning (Saturday) there is a fabulous market in front of the Hospices that should not be missed as well as sipping a Cafe au lait in one of the many cafes in the squares in the center of Beaune.

If you want a quick little pedal in the morning we have routes available.

The trip ends officially at check out time from our hotel (11hoo). There are frequent trains that take you to Dijon to continue your travel. Upon prior arrangement we can transfer you and your group to Dijon by van (additional charges apply). Please let us know well in advance.
